RV travel HOB
Last night it was -6 in New Haven.
and
we were the only souls in the Wall-mart parking lot.
The night before we were in Maine, in the deep freeze. It was -20 and our water froze and we spent 2 hours with a hair dryer thawing out the pipes. It worked amazingly well and when we got them thawed we pumped antifreeze through the system so it wouldn't happen again. I figured that if it was -20 standing still, then when you are driving 110 kilometers an hour the wind chill is approximately anywhere from -30 or -40, no wonder our water froze.
Lol, I don't think people are travelling the direction we are because it is just as cold in most parts of the Eastern States as it is in Canada.
We ventured into a couple of antique shops and I found a Fire King mixing bowl with a handle on the side, pretty sharp and useful.
I also found some pin up calendar girls, these come without a handle and are pretty but not useful as the calendar is 1953, but, certainly sexy and my sister-in-law is going to love them.
I also found a section on smalls. When I think back I can remember my grandmother asking my granndfather to put 5 finishing nails in a wooden spool that had a hole in the centre. She then got a blunt sewing needle and taught me how to make this long rope by overlaping the yarn on the nails. We would make things with the rope. I found this carpet it the smalls section and it will be perfect for my doll house. Grandpa just told me it was spool knitting.
Thus is my travels up till today. We are about to get on the road soon and we are headed to Staton Island, where we spent a great deal of time at last year helping victims of Storm Sandy.

When you said you were heading south to get away from the cold, I didn't want to spoil the anticipation by telling you that it was just as cold where you were going. Let's hope this polar vortex soon goes back home to the North pole. I remember spool knitting too. I've even got a new tool to do it with wire that I haven't tried out yet.

How exciting to go exploring the world in an RV... but it does sound very cold! Love your finds ~ that green bowl is beautiful! Hubby and I went driving in the summer to Redding, California (12 hours from where we live) and we stopped at every antique shop along the way. Does your hubby mind doing that? My hubby always searches for antique corgy toy cars from Great Britain to add to his toy car collection. Thank you for visiting my blog and always leaving such kind words! Hi Cindy, Hope you are in much warmer climate by now. My mom had (and probably still has) the green handled mixing bowl. We always used it for pancake batter! Good travels to you.
