Snow Top Coastal Mountains

Our passages from McBride BC to Terrace, but not without a stopover in Burns Lake to visit some wonderful friends, good food, nature and a bit of advice taking us up to Nass Valley Rain Forest and Lava Lake.

As we look behind us heading next to Burns Lake, Bc.

I was promised by my best friend that he would take me to BC some day to meet his family and where his old stomping ground was. That never happened, he never will fulfil that promise as he passed away June 2013, leaving behind some wonderful people and memories. His mom Marie and I had met oh about 20 years ago, but his dad and sister who he talked so often about I'd not had the opportunity to ever meet. Over the years we stayed in touch and kept this little promise to each other of hope. I made it happen, we took the back roads and neandered our way up and around mountains until be stopped in God's country there on the Lake, Francois Lake.

Carol, put out feed in the early morning and the swans came right up and ate where we could watch them show off

Next after coffee a deer came to graze not far away from the window where we sat and had great conversation and got to know each other.

We left shortly after noon with promise and hope, saying good bye and making promise to meet again some day perhaps this time in PEI after Kenny gives Guy two bags of moose meat, one ground into hamburg the other lovely strips of sirloin. Guy and I drove off feeling a sense of family. Not far down the road after I thought about the moose hide hanging and the tool shop and the storyteller did Guy say you know, Ken reminds me a lot like your father.

We drove into the night and found the snow covered road and fog was just getting too much so we pulled over at a rest stop and stayed the night.

When we took the dog out for a wee pee there they were these beautiful snow top Coastal Mountains

It was cloudy and we waited as long as we could. The morning sun was heating up the cloud and fog and starting to lift when we drove off.

Our day was filled with more adventure as we were off to visit Nass Valley as recommended by Carol, thank you it was another Wow!

From Terrace we got on Hwy 113 heading north west to Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park winding roads, up the side of the mountain and back down again

 

over small creeks and through windshield whippers until

we arrived at the lava bed

The rain stopped when we arrived and the sun came out

The lava bed is covered in lichens = the dust from the road and debris left from leaves attaches itself to the creveses in the lava rock until it gets moisture and starts to grow a moss like formation

After our climb

We drove and measured the lava formation for 12 klm.

Then we stopped to visit Vetter Falls

It was a fairy land adventure

It's getting dark, we better head back but not until I check out this size of this old tree
