The last house on the block

Hello,

new followers and my good ole arm chair followers.

Today I want to reflect. It is Sunday and I don't often blog on Sunday but perhaps I'll not be with internet until next week, one never knows.

We are 13 days behind schedule and spent a little cutting and piecing of the map yesterday and headed straight for Vancouver. I know, but sometimes you have to just get out of the cold inorder to appreciate what is around the next corner. Blessings for sure, happy Sunday.

The Okanogan

Lake Okanagan didn't show off Ogo Pogo so we continued on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Growing up as a little girl I always remember our house being the last one on the block just before the park and on a dead end street.
Being the last house on this block gives a different outlook.
Nothing too much exciting to report on the drive today other than the speed limit, 120 a first for me.
This rather unusual spot we pulled over for lunch is home to a few eagles over time. I didn't see any action, but a closer look told me whatever bird lived up there -
I didn't want to meet, day or night.
Can't imagine the size of her to be able to get this wooden pallet up under her nest.
Well I must be off my friends, I'm about to arrive at Canada Place and I'll be flying over Canada soon, just to have a look at what I might have missed. canadaplace.ca
Buckle up,
Cindy
The Last Nail
Hello My Arm Chair Followers,
It is still a cold morning as we make our way through the mountains towards Kamloops.
Love seeing thee sun on the mountain tops
What you are looking at is a tunnel made on the sides of the mountain. This tunnel prevents avalanches from blocking the roadway. If the avalanche has a path to travel then they don't have to continually close the roads.
Watch out!
Oh my gosh that was a close call, so lucky to get the photo. Talk about scary but exciting all at the same time. Ok, I want to head south where the scariest things are 8 grandchildren.
This is a photo of the damage an avalanche left in its path probably 25 years ago. You can see the trees have started to grow again and the timbers are all down at the bottom of the hill mountain.
I was over the moon excited to find an enchanted forest and could only think of Mary from "The Guardian" (our column writter for the Prince Edward Island news paper) and how she would love to visit here. So would I but they were closed.
The forests behind the gate were drenched in enchantment only a fairy enthusiasts would love.
The Castle that you have to enter before the forest.
Our next stop was "The Last Spike"
in Craigalachie, BC.
I thought there would be a gold spike or a BIG here but there wasn't.
What there was though was a train that went by on the tracks just as we were at the monument taking a picture, what are the odds of that?
Onto the valley and into the dark. Our adventures today were exhausting ones for sure. I missed my skype time with dad, however early morning internet allowed me to make a video message and send it so when they set him up in the activity room he could watch the video of me with the mountain in the back drop.
Well my friends, there is a 6 hour drive ahead and with luck our water will be out of the deep freeze and we will be heading towards Vancouver a little warmer weather.
Vancouver here we come,
All I have to say is Beachcombing!
I'll be back with pictures of seaglass,
Columbia Ice Fields
Hello friends,
I'm really enjoying this off line Blogsy, while the French Gardener is mapping out and talking to dash board Sally I can be writing my blog for the next day. Then a short trip over to Tim Horton's drive by Wi-Fi and voila its a new post.
I'd better get started
Our drive through the Columbia Ice Field was an icy one
Do you ever get tired of seeing mountains?
I got a couple of telephone poles along the way also
Kicking Horse Pass
This was taken through the windshield, amazing ah? Can you imagine how much blasting to make the road through this mountain
This is the glacier, imagine how wonderful it is when it isn't covered in snow and everything around it is green. The snow we had last night sort of took the wow out of it for us today, but then snow takes the wow out of a lot right?
Were we coming all this way to the Hot Springs - apparently this earthquake in Alaska has interupted 2 of the hot springs that we know of and they have emptied.
Here we are in Lake Louise freezing our noids off. Everyone around had on hats, scarves, winter coats and boots, here we are in a sweater and running shoes. I'm not really that short, am I? I think I was bent at the knee because I was so cold. The lake was pretty.
Canada
is Pretty.
You know what they say, ah! Yours to discover, just don't wait until November to do it as it is too cold.
We are off to Craigellachie, apparently not for a big but for a last.
You will have to wait for our next Wi-Fi to find out what the last is.
Until we connect again,
See you my friend,
Cindy
Good Frosty Fences
Hello my friends.
Have you ever made the perfect post and lost it? WEll I did, crumbs, so I'm starting over and it probably will have as many spelling mistakes as the first one, lol
I'm in a bit of a rush you see, the cold weather is here, we woke to -22 this am. A cold snap just popped in like that out of nowhere. Even the dog went to head out the RV door this am and turned around and ran back to bed.
We got an early start this am, but I promise I'll be around to visit all you lovelies as soon as I get my fingers warmed up and we have some solid internet service.
Lets get started shall we?
Our travels, we are in Jasper about to drive the Columbia Ice Shields, that there is the remaining of my alpaka yarn that I made socks from last week, nice and warm
It was a frosty morning heading out
We spotted some awesome views as the sun was coming up
We found another BIG this one a fishing reel
Put a chili in the crock pot for supper. BTW this was the best chili ever.
and neandered our way towards Jasper our next destination
I found this while driving, notice the frost on the barbed wired fence, couldn't keep the frost out.
Oh one more before I go, this one is a little trick do you see it?
I'm getting off, seems the Jasper area doesn't provide many wifi service outlets and the Visitor's Centres are all closed at this time of year, so as promised I'll get around but give me some time,
You will find me over lurking about on Theresa's Good Fences blog today. A place where we post great pictures, meeting interesting people from all over the world, come have some fun and find out what good fences are all about.
The Strongest Survives
Gwaii Haanas the heart of
Haida Gwaii
Our trip across Canada started September 20, 2014 - our destination PEI to Haida Gwaii. We arrived Haida Gwaii after a 6 hour ferry ride on November 6th, 2014 at around 5pm.
We have travelled to some out of the way places, taken thousands of wonderful scenic pictures, explored areas of the earth that we can't imagine and then we arrived on Haida Gwaii. Finnally we are here, yes the rain is pounding down on the roof of the RV and we notice but only one small community centre sized store that appeared to hold everything from hardware to groceries. Not many villagers are out and about, but we noticed one logging truck coming down the road. I reach under the seat for the small visitors guide for the Island and with excitement I start to peer through the pages. I notice a great deal of nature, and warnings of the black bear, trails and excursions warning to let others know before you go into the wetlands because because we are entering a wild place without roads or stores or cellphones coverage, and to take plenty of water.
As a child growing up
We ventured outdoors and played cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians and hide-and-go-seek, inventing adventure, creating fun from sun up to sun down. Here we are as adults after learning the art of self entertainment we are finding ourselves arrested by our surroundings, complelled to lement and complain about the rain, lack of services, no internet and no cell towers to connect us. At one point I felt if this was a game I wanted to loose, loose badly so I could be booted off the Island and back to what was.
The rain stops and the sun comes out
A long walk on the beach proves to us the air is different here, when the birds sing they have song and there is an annouying cheerp frog that is only nativer to the Island I'm sure. Water runs down from the rain forests and higher up mountains, rushing fast sounding like continual thuds from pounding drums, who knows it may be sounds far off in the distance, far as the eagle flies.
What I've learned:
The Land: Is rich where the sea meets the shore and the Pacific temperate keeps the rainforest dense, mossy with western red cedar, western hemlock and spruce trees, some standing most covered by moss.
The Sea: Full of life the sea is home to salmon, herring, halibut, rockfish, crab, sea urchins, octopus, with 20 species of whales and dolphins in the waters. The Orca feeds on thousands of pounds of herring to fatten for the winter. Sea kelp is harvested after the herring lay their eggs (roe on kelp) and it is sold to Japan (I've yet to find out why). The sea is a cycle the herring fatten, the salmon eat then spawn to die, while the black bears eat the rich salmon and the herring school again.
The People: Habitation extends over 12, 000 years. Old carved burial poles and longhouse remains on the forest floor. I saw many Haida people and villagers, some walk with backpacks of self carving argelite for sale for visitors who wish to purchase. Others gather in groups standing around chatting about the last hunt I overherd on say.
What I've found:
Peace and grace, surenity and sound, rejouvination and relaxation.
I'll share with you in the following pictures.
Balance Rock
sea glass stone and shells
Rich forests
easy living
eating what the sea offers
making use of wood and driftwood
Creating and crafting
Stories and legends
never changing or maintaining
watching how significat nature can pass.
Now I see the beautify they so strive of the past, keeping this place a secret so it will ever last.
